"Why did we decide to dedicate the theme to investment and why did we choose this one among many other options? The answer, as well as many other things, is ahead of us and it is extremely simple - to expect efficiency and effectiveness in the activities of our organizations, we need to invest in resources, which are the human capital or our employees, and investment in safety is part of the process for optimization of time and cost, as well as part of motivation and retention policies." - these were the words with which he explained the idea of the conference.

Although last in turn, Mr. McIntyre played an extremely important role and significance for the event, as through his speech and as a part of the official program of the Second International OSH Conference, he also presented the latest IOSH strategy - Work 2022". It aims to develop a global vision to tackle inequality in protecting the global workforce so as to guarantee the human right of every worker to return home alive and healthy after every working day no matter what part of the world.
The strategy was launched only two weeks ago in Leicester, UK, and our country is one of the first where it is presented.
At the end of the opening ceremony, the well-known cartoon character NAPO - a special guest at the conference was welcomed and he received congratulations for its twentieth anniversary.
As already mentioned, this year the focus of the program was based on the key importance of investment in safety and health at work. In support of that, many of the presentations, part of the three-day training, presented a series of good practices from both Bulgaria and abroad. Examples of the abovementioned were companies such as Burgasbus and KCM JSC - winners of the Good Practice Competition - "Annual National OSH Awards" for 2015 and 2016. The experience shared by the Austrian Social Insurance Institute was an eloquent example of the real return on investment in safety at work - each one of the OSH experts presenting there had the opportunity to personally make sure of all of that, thanks to the examples of specific values generated as a result of an accident at and the corresponding losses for employers and taxpayers.
A significant emphasis and importance was also given to the presentations on the topic of combating workplace cancer related to the risks of excessive sun exposure at work - "No Time to Lose", as well as the investment campaign of several years ago - Li₤e Savings, conducted by IOSH.
We cannot forget to mention the lecturers for the Ordinance RD-07-2, who thanks to their rich professional experience and many years of practice, presented the material in an interesting way. We hope that each of the presenting OSH specialists and experts will be able to transfer and implement the shared experiences and good practices in their businesses.
The special program of the conference included a professional fashion show, presenting the latest fashion accents and innovations in working clothes and Personal Protective Equipment. Organizer of it was the leader in the field of production and trade with WW and PPE - "BULTEX 99" Ltd., which was also one of the main sponsors of the conference.
The conference was closed by Mr. Ljupcho Kochovski, who thanked all the guests and participants of the event. To end the event, the last evening gave the opportunity to the guests to enjoy the unique performance of the special guest-performer - the famous Bulgarian singer - Mr. Veselin Marinov.
We hope that through shared experience, practices and contacts, as well as through the numerous examples presented, we have convinced you of the benefits and key role of investments to ensure healthy and safe working conditions!
